Alwinton Round 2013

We had a great time this weekend doing the Alwinton Round.  My brother recently joined the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team (who host the event every year) and as Ollie had been drafted in to Marshall one of the check points, we all decided to participate in the walk.  It is the first time we have walked The Alwinton Round and the glorious sunshine made it beautiful, but tough going.  On some of the steep hills there was no breeze, and so it was like walking in an oven.  But then you’d reach the summit and a gentle breeze would fan your face and you’d be greeted by one of the most stunning views known to man.  We could see all the way to the coast and the rolling hills of the Pennies stretched out before you, one after another, covered in lush green grass and topped with purple moorland.  After we completed the 15 mile walk we headed to the lovely Clennell Hall Riverside Caravan Park.  We had pitched our tent earlier that morning, and after a quick, relitalising shower we heartily ate our way through a 5 course BBQ!!!  Ah, this is the life!  More of the same please!
