From the spectacular Medieval Monastery of Hexham Abbey, the grade 1 listed village of Blanchland to Durham Cathedral, you will be breath taken by the rustic charm and bold architecture.  Start the day at Hexham Abbey first built in 674AD by St Wilfred, one of the richest men in Europe at the time.  At Blanchland village you will see the legacy of the former monastery, the village is now one of the only grade 1 listed villages in England.  The UNESC World Heritage site of Durham Cathedral is a masterpiece of medieval architecture and is the resting place of St Cuthbert and the Venerable Bede.  The Medieval Monastery of Hexham Abbey was build with recycled stone taken from the Roman fort at Corbridge.  This can been seen in the crypt of the Abbey…

  • Distance:  The tour takes place inside of historic venues with good surfaces to walk on and outdoors with uneven paths to walk on.   We can drive the vehicle close to the venue for easier access, should you require. See the Leisurely Walk description.
